A loofah helps to slough off dead and dry skin while you’re in the shower, but it can also be a host for bacteria. The moisture and humidity present in a bathroom make an ideal breeding ground for nasty bacteria. You could replace your loofah every month or so, but if you want to extend its lifespan, try disinfecting it every week or two instead.
Rinse the loofah with hot water to remove dead skin cells.
Fill a bucket with a hydrogen peroxide and water solution. Use two parts warm water and one part hydrogen peroxide.
Place the loofah into the peroxide solution so it’s completely submerged. Let it soak for 30 to 60 minutes.
Remove the loofah from the solution and wring it out. Hang it in a well-ventilated area to dry completely.
