Being the mom of a rambunctious toddler can be a trying but extremely rewarding experience. We all know that toddlers are little bundles of energy. As soon as they start toddling around, there's no stopping them. So, that's why it is important to keep your toddler busy with activities. When the weather doesn't cooperate for playing outside, you will find plenty of indoor activities for your toddler in Sterling, Virginia and in the surrounding areas.
1. Sterling Library
A perfect way to spend a rainy day indoors with your toddler is at the Sterling Library (engagedpatrons.org). Snuggle up together in the children's section and read a story. Let your toddler help you select some books to check out and take home with you. You can read them together before bedtime. Join other toddlers at Rhythm Rhyme and Tune Time Classes: Early Literacy through Music. This program is for children 18 months to 4 years. You and your toddler can sign or chant along, experiment with musical instruments and dance while exploring all of the rhythms, sounds and patterns of our language. Don't worry about feeling silly, because all of the other moms will look like goof balls too! There is also a toddler story time every Wednesday morning for ages 18 to 36 months.
2. JW Tumbles

This learning playground, just 11 minutes away in Herndon, offers programs for children to help build their social and developmental skills. Wobblers is for 11- to 18-month-olds and encourages curiosity through activities like kicking a ball, pushing toys, walking on a balance beam and playing with big magic bubbles. Your 18-month to 2 1/2-year-old can participate in Wigglers. In this class, toddlers learn how to walk up steps, jump on a trampoline and basic climbing techniques. For the 2 1/2- to 3-years old, the Two program teaches skills like climbing a rope ladder, tumbling and flying on a trapeze. You will be amazed at how much confidence and the social skills your toddler will gain. Each of these classes involve moms, so you will get to be right there experiencing it all with your little one.
3. Curiosity Zone
At the Curiosity Zone (curiosityzone.com), 11 minutes away in Ashburn, you and your toddler can take a science class in the kid-sized lab or join in on the other activities offered. Storytime Science is for 2- to 4- year-olds and helps to develop creative thinking, curiosity and confidence. Music Together is aimed at children four and younger. This early childhood movement and music program offers moms and their toddlers the opportunity to explore music together. Sign your 3-year-old up for Little Lab Science. Not only will your toddler get a head start on math and science skills, he will also love the music, art, stories and hands-on investigations he will get to experience with mom.
4. Potomac Swim School
At the Potomac Swim School (potomacswimschool.com) in Ashburn, your toddler will love getting to play in the water with you. You will love that he is having fun while learning the important swimming skills he needs to become a good swimmer. Waterbabies is for moms and their 6- to 36-month olds. You can bond with your little one while he develops emotionally, socially, physically and intellectually. Aquatots is for toddlers over 3 years. The various levels of Aquatots will teach your toddler how to swim with his face in the water for varying distances and other valuable swimming skills. All classes meet weekly for 30-minute sessions.
