Kids' Activities in Coeur D'Alene, ID

by Sara Mahuron

Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, is full of adventure and entertainment, guaranteeing excitement for the whole family -- even if you have picky kids. Rather than miss out on all the fun you should be having, arm yourself with a list of kid's activities that you don't want to miss. While it may not be obvious at first glance, there is so much to do that you will have to save some activities for another time. This northern Idaho town will have you feeling like you are a kid again -- until your kids remind you otherwise

1. Enjoy the Lake

While you may not be in town because of the lake, you can bet many others are. Lake Coeur D'Alene, said to be one of the world's most beautiful lakes, is the region's highlight. Where the town meets the lake, a wonderful beach area complete with a lifeguard in the summer months, is enjoyed by locals and tourists alike. Behind this area, both kids and adults are delighted by an amazing 6,000 foot wooden playground located in City Park (travelcoeurdalene.com/citypark.html). If the kids ever tire of the playground, they can follow the Mudgy Moose Trail that celebrates a local author's book, "Mudgy & Millie," with five statues your kids will love. The world's longest floating boardwalk is nearby and offers magnificent lake views that are only topped by taking a boat onto the lake with the kids.

2. Check Out Downtown

Downtown Coeur D'Alene is filled with charm. The Coeur D'Alene Resort (cdaresort.com) towers at the water's edge and includes several mouth-watering restaurants in the area. Enjoy a meal with the kids at family-friendly Tito's Italian Grill, shop for unusual and educational toys at Figpickles and pick up a treat at Mrs. Honeypeeps Sweet Shop -- all in one place. The resort offers lake cruises, and if you are a guest of the resort, the kids will enjoy the pool.

3. Amusement Park Fun

While this town enjoys all four seasons, you can have a great time at Triple Play (3play.com), a family fun park, even when there is a foot of snow on the ground. Pack the kiddos in the car and head to this world of wonder where people of all ages will find something fun to do. Triple Play is complete with an indoor water park and lots of games.

4. Seasonal Happenings

If you are fortunate enough to be in Coeur D'Alene around the winter holidays, your kids will be in for a treat. "Journey to the North Pole" (cdaresort.com/activities/holiday_events) lake cruises are organized daily and take you and your kids to visit Santa and his workshop. You can also take the family to a holiday musical, travel around in a horse-drawn sleigh and enjoy the holiday light show of 1.5 million lights along the lake. While any time of year can be magical in this town, the holidays are extra special for kids.
