Is your toddler or preschooler out of sorts and getting himself into mischief because of too much time on his hands? It may be time to shake up your routine and get yourselves out of the house for a change of scenery. Cartersville, Georgia, a quiet little town just under an hour's drive from the Atlanta area has an assortment of stimulating activities for you and your little munchkin to choose from.
1. Indoor Activities
Head on over to explore the Cartersville Tellus Science Museum (tellusmuseum.org) with your little one. You'll both have a blast going on a fossil hunting expedition, using a treasure map to go panning for gems or checking out hands-on experiments that involve light, sound, weather and electricity. Spend a rainy day snuggled up with your little one at the Cartersville Public Library (bartowlibraryonline.org/cartersville). Participate in one of the programs like Kindermusik Storytime for kiddos 1 to 4. It includes tons of fun music and movement. Let your hair down and let your inner child shine through as you sing and move right along with your little one.
2. Sports and Recreation
Sign your munchkin up for Cartersville's Clash Soccer League (clashsoccer.org). This is for kiddos 3 or older and takes place in the spring and fall. A co-ed T-ball league takes place during the spring and summer and may be perfect for your 4-year-old. Fit-n-Fun Preschool Gymnastics (cartersvilletwisters.com) is held at the Cartersville Gymnastics and Tumbling Center. It's for 2- to 4-year-old kiddos and includes warmups, fun obstacles set to music and other activities to promote motor skill development and help build self esteem. Any of these activities would be a great way to keep your tot active to use up some of that endless energy that can sometimes drive you batty.
3. Play Groups
Get out and meet other mommies and their little ones by joining a play group. Acworth Moms and Toddlers (meetup.com/playgroup-1080) is a group based in Acworth, just 15 minutes from Cartersville. The Kennesaw/Acworth Mommy's group (meetup.com/Kennesaw-Acworth-Mommys) is another group for young moms of toddlers. Both groups regularly plan local play dates. Another group you might like is the Northwest Cobb Moms (meetup.com/Northwestcobbmom), which is comprised of moms from the entire West and North Cobb County area. They plan adventures for moms and their little ones in the Cobb County area and sometimes farther away in downtown Atlanta. There are also mom's night out events planned to give you a much needed and well deserved break from mommyhood. (Bonus!)
4. Outdoor Activities
Get your rambunctious little monkey outside for some fresh air and sunshine so he can run off some of that energy. Your little animal will have a wild good time at Pettit Creek Farms (pettitcreekfarms.com/pettingzoo) in Cartersville. You'll step into the petting zoo and be greeted by Jack the goat and Ms. Piggy. Your little man will squeal with delight when he gets to pet a camel, cow, donkey and sheep. Check out the farm's Pumpkin Fest in autumn, where your little one can pick out his very own pumpkin to take home, or the annual Christmas lights display, where you can drive through the farm in your car or go on an exciting hayride to see all the lights and even some real reindeer.
