Things to Do With Kids on Friday Nights in Broward County, Florida

by Tania K. Cowling

Are you looking for some fun evening activities for your kids in Broward County? The county is nestled in south Florida with its main metropolis of Ft. Lauderdale and adorning bedroom cities. Whether you live here or just visiting, there is more to do than just combing the beach or visiting the zoo by day. Come evening why not visit a gaming center geared for preschoolers or take advantage of a parent’s night out at a local venue? There’s plenty to do with the kiddos in the Sunshine State by the light of the moon on Friday nights.

1. Monkey Joe’s

If you have a rambunctious little one, plan a visit to one of the Monkey Joe’s locations (monkeyjoes.com) for plenty of jumping around at this play center. While you sit back and relax the kids can play in stocking feet on the many inflatable slides, jumps and obstacle courses. The facility is well lit at night, children are monitored by video, and the equipment is sanitized regularly for germs we know preschoolers carry. Monkey Joe’s is geared for children between the ages of 4 and 12, with a separate toddler room in the venue. This play center stays open until 9 p.m. on Friday nights.

2. Xcape Zone

Are you looking for a place for the young and young at heart? Why not visit this venue’s living room where there are hands-on activities with toys for ages one through four and electronic fun for the older kids? Then take a ride on the bumper cars together with your child as long as he has passed his fifth birthday. Xcape Zone (xcapezone.com) also has large inflatable toys and even a Lemur Climbing wall. Make it a family fun night until 9 p.m. on Friday.

3. Parent’s Night Out

Let’s face it; parents need a date night once in a while! There are a couple places in Broward County where you can drop off your children and enjoy a few hours of alone time. The Broward YMCA (ymcabroward.org) conducts a Friday family night out at several of their locations. They provide fun age-appropriate activities for children between the ages of 3 and 12. For a small fee, the YMCA will provide a light supper and themed arts & crafts, along with games until 9 p.m. My Gym locations in Broward County, Florida (my-gym.com) also conducts a Parent’s Night Out on the second Friday of every month from 6 to 9 p.m. The venue provides food, fun games and activities to amuse your child – he may not want to go home after this fun evening!

4. Dial-A-Story

If you have a situation where you just can’t leave the house (an illness or the car broke down), you can still provide a fun activity provided by the Broward County Library System called Dial-A-Story. Cuddle on your couch and dial 954-357-7777 on your speakerphone to enjoy professional recorded stories that are geared to please the younger set. It’s open 24/7 so this is the perfect bedtime practice to do together on Friday nights.
