Dating a married man presents many challenges.

The Truth About Dating Married Men

by Lucy Hart

The only men more tempting than celebrity A-listers and professional athletes are married men. Chances are you know someone who has been involved in an extramarital affair. From its inception, a relationship with a married man can seem fulfilling and invigorating, leaving you enchanted with new-found physical and emotional intimacy. However, as time progresses, you will be forced to accept the truth about dating a married man.

1. Trust

The married man you are dating can lead you to believe anything. However, remember that he is being unfaithful to his spouse and lying about his whereabouts. His behavior with his spouse should indicate that you cannot trust him. He is demonstrating the measures he will take to get what he desires, even if it means sacrificing his family and integrity. Make sure that you are not looking through rose-colored glasses and that you see this man for who he really is.

2. Suffering

Dating a married man will result in a great deal of suffering. You are forced to keep your relationship a secret, and your time together is scheduled around his spouse and children. Despite how much he says he loves you, you are not at the top of his priority list. You are merely the other woman. To meet his needs, you end up compromising your own. Although you may have transitory moments with him, you will always share him with his spouse.

3. Morality

Having an extramarital affair can make it more difficult to maintain a moral conscience. As the other woman, you could bring shame and resentment on everyone involved if the affair is disclosed. If you are deeply involved, you may lose concern for those you are hurting. Dating a married man could cause you to compromise your personal integrity and sensitivity.

4. Time

Although you may feel you are investing your time in a prosperous relationship, your man belongs to someone else. Avoid wasting your time dating a married man. Having an affair could result in you missing out on developing a healthy, loving relationship with a man who will truly value you and want to be with you.

5. Divorce

In rare occurrences, a married man may opt to leave his wife and family. However, if he is not satisfied with you, you will always worry that he might cheat on you as well. The truth is, extramarital affairs rarely become long-lasting relationships. Your chances of having a legitimate relationship with a married man are minimal.
