For tighter waves, weave your hair into five or six braids.

How to Get Waves Without Curlers

by Michelle Ullman

Tousled, wavy hair looks sexy and carefree. It's a great style for weekends, date nights or casual days running errands. Part of the charm of wavy hair is its easy, undone feel, so there's no need for rollers or excessive time spent styling. You can braid your hair the night before and wake up with sexy waves, or do a quick blow-dry styling in the morning.

1. Braids

1 Wash, condition and towel dry your hair as usual.

2. Braids

2 Run a dollop of curl-enhancing gel or cream through your hair from roots to ends.

3. Braids

3 Separate your hair into three sections: one at the back of your head and one on each side. Loosely braid each section, fastening the ends with an elastic band.

4. Braids

4 Undo the braids in the morning, then gently run your fingers through your hair to separate the waves.

5. Pin Curls

1 Wash, condition and towel dry your hair as usual. Comb curl-enhancing gel or cream through your hair from roots to ends.

6. Pin Curls

2 Separate a 2-inch section of hair over your forehead. Twist the hair loosely, then curl it into a bun and fasten with a bobby pin.

7. Pin Curls

3 Continue to twist and pin sections of hair evenly around your head. The more sections you pin, the tighter your waves will be.

8. Pin Curls

4 Blow-dry your hair until it feels dry to the touch. Keep the blow-dryer moving so you don't scorch your hair.

9. Pin Curls

5 Remove the bobby pins and use your fingers to comb out the waves.
