Rio Rancho is a small city located in central New Mexico. It sits just north of Albuquerque and has sweeping views of the majestic Sandia Mountains and vast expanses of breathtaking desert. The city is home to some 90,000 people, according to the 2012 United States Census, and due to its close proximity to Albuquerque, Santa Fe and other points of interest within New Mexico, it has also become a popular spot for tourists. If you live in the "City of Vision" or you happen to be traveling through and are looking for activities to keep the kids entertained, you will find a range of options available to you.

Bowling is a family-friendly activity that will provide entertainment for all ages in Rio Rancho. Tenpins and More, the only bowling alley in the city, has been offering up family fun for decades. This bowling alley offers kid-friendly bowling options, including bumper bowling, glow bowling and even a special party room that caters to kids' birthday parties. Hours of fun are sure to be had with the family at Tenpins and More.

The city of Rio Rancho offers several parks and community centers that feature fun activities for kids including arts and crafts, tennis, swimming, softball, dance, and gymnastics and tumbling classes. Programs are offered year-round, so no matter what time of year you are looking for something for the kids to do, you can count on the parks and community centers.

Sports and Shows

Santa Ana Star Center is the place to go in Rio Rancho to take in shows and sporting events. This 7,000-seat arena is home to the New Mexico Stars, an indoor football team. The Star Center also hosts a wide variety of other kid-friendly events and activities all year long, including interactive shows like Disney on Ice and Sesame Street Live, and traveling circuses such as Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey and Cirque du Soleil.

Surrounding Area

There are even more family-friendly activities to enjoy just a short drive away from Rio Rancho. The city of Albuquerque is located about 30 minutes away and offers plenty of fun things for kids to do. The Albuquerque Zoo, the Albuquerque Aquarium, Old Town Albuquerque and Petroglyph National Monument are just some of the attractions kids will like. If they are looking for a thrill, head to the Sandia Foothills, and they can venture up to 10,378-foot Sandia Peak via the Sandia Peak Aerial Tramway.
