How to Attach an Antler Door Handle

by Nikki Fotheringham

Antler-shaped handles or door pulls can be installed onto your doors to add a hip, modern-rustic flair to your home. These door handles are fitted with threaded stems and are attached using nuts and washers.

Position the antler door handle near the latch or door lock. Ensure that you will be able to use the latch or key in the door with ease. Check that the handle is straight and properly aligned. Mark its position on the door with the pencil.

Drill two holes through the door over the pencil marks. Slide the threaded stems of the handle through the holes and hold it in place with one hand.

Place the rubber washers on the ends of the threaded stems with your other hand. Then thread the nuts on and tighten them by hand. Tighten the nuts securely using the wrench.

Items you will need

  • Pencil
  • Drill with 3/16-inch drill bit
  • Two washers
  • Two nuts
  • Wrench

  • If you are installing your antler handles on an outside door, use silicone to seal the holes you drill into the door. This will prevent moisture from getting in and damaging your door.
  • Use antlers that are at least a year old. This will mean that they are completely dry and will reduce any chance of them cracking.
