How to Clean Diamond Watches With Toothpaste

by Lisa Finn

When you have a special piece of jewelry like a diamond watch, you take precautions storing it, cleaning it and choosing where to wear your precious treasure. All these decisions take some thought, and can mean the difference between your watch looking magnificent or appearing muddy. A sparkling diamond watch can be yours with just a little help from something you use every day. Simply use a toothbrush and a mild toothpaste and watch as your diamond watch sparkles and shines like new.

Place a dollop of toothpaste on a soft toothbrush and apply a little splash of water.

Hold the watch in your hand and slowly brush the face with your toothbrush in small circles. This motion can remove slight scratches or stuck-on debris.

Move the toothbrush down to the links and place the bristles in between. Gently brush the watch, paying attention to dirt and debris and applying more pressure where needed. Cover the entire watch with the paste and let sit for 1 minute.

Wet a section of a clean, soft cloth. Use the damp cloth and begin removing the paste. Make sure to remove all the residue around the face, the back of the watch and through any links or hidden spots.

Polish the watch with a clean, soft cloth. Make sure to hold the watch on the sides so you keep the face clean and the diamonds sparkling.

Items you will need

  • Non-abrasive toothpaste
  • Soft-head toothbrush
  • Damp cloth
  • Soft cleaning cloth

  • Use a cotton swab to remove toothpaste in hard-to-reach places.

  • Check the water resistance of your watch. Refrain from rinsing the toothpaste under the faucet unless you are sure it won't ruin the watch.
