How to Dress for a Garden Party

by Sara Cantu

Spring and summer are wonderful times of year to host garden parties. Whether you're the host or a welcomed guest, appropriately dressing for the occasion is half the fun. Bright colors, floral dresses and cute accessories like sun hats make up the ideal attire for these special affairs. Looking polished and feminine is key to dressing properly for a lovely afternoon garden party.

Floral Dresses

Floral dresses and garden parties are nearly synonymous. Available in a wide array of different styles and silhouettes, a feminine floral dress is a great way to dress up for the occasion, all while remaining comfortable and sophisticated. Pair your dress with a blazer in a neutral shade to add a dose of polish. Neutral-colored heels and metallic accessories are a classic way to seal the deal on this sweet ensemble.

Bright Colors

Garden parties are light-hearted and fun, so dress accordingly by sporting something bold and bright. Vivid hues like bright yellow, cobalt, purple and fuchsia will look stunning against a luscious green backdrop. Whether your outfit of choice includes a sleek maxi dress or a perfect-fitting pair of elegant high-waist trousers, garments in saturated colors are the ideal way to make a statement during festive garden parties.

Accessories are among the simplest ways to jazz up a basic outfit for a garden party. For instance, a basic white cotton dress will look phenomenal when paired with pop-of-color pieces like a bright clutch and matching heels. Or, add a small printed shoulder bag and statement necklace for a different approach. Additionally, large sun hats and floral headbands are adorable ways to accessorize for a garden party. If you'd like to take your look more classic, opt for a string of pearls, small crystal drop earrings or a dainty gold or silver bracelet.

Short Suits

A gorgeous short suit is one of the chicest and trendiest outfits you can sport at a festive garden party. Matching separates are solid transitional pieces and make dressing for different occasions a breeze. Choose a springtime hue like coral or daffodil yellow; or, select a simple neutral hue for an outfit you are sure to wear time and time again. Not only do these short suits look fantastic on their own, but switching out the pieces to form unique, cohesive ensembles is a great way to get the most bang for your buck. An ivory blazer paired with a simple colored tank top and matching ivory shorts is a stylish outfit to take you through the entire spring and summer months. Add a pair of metallic strappy sandals to look both pretty and posh.
