A multi-strand necklace works well with the simple, straight neckline of a strapless wedding gown.

What Necklaces Look Best With a Strapless Wedding Dress?

by Jennifer Blair

There's something classic about a strapless wedding dress that can help make a bride feel like royalty on her special day. It's also one of the easier styles to accessorize because there isn't a lot of material around the chest and shoulders to compete with jewelry -- which means you have plenty of options when it comes to necklaces. Whether you want to make a bold statement or opt for subtle elegance, there's a necklace that can complement your strapless dress for the ideal look at your wedding.

An Elegant Choker

Whether you want an understated or a bold look for your wedding, you'll have no trouble finding a choker necklace that can pair beautifully with your strapless gown. For a simple, elegant look, a single-strand pearl choker is an ideal option with a strapless dress. More elaborate styles that feature pearls in combination with crystals and gold are also available. If you want a more dramatic option, choose a thick rhinestone choker. You can also bring a little color to your look by opting for a choker that features your favorite gemstones like emeralds, sapphires or rubies.

A Dramatic Bib

If you want a dramatic necklace for your wedding day, a bib style definitely fits the bill. As there's a lot of space above the neckline of a strapless dress, a bib necklace is usually wide and flat enough – like a bib, hence the name -- to fill it in a striking way. Most bridal bib necklaces feature rhinestones and/or pearls to coordinate with the pale colors of a wedding dress. However, if you want to echo your wedding’s accent colors in your necklace, you can also find a bib necklace with colored rhinestones in shades like pink, blue or green.

A Striking Multi-Strand

A multi-strand necklace is another excellent option when you're looking to use the extra space above the neckline of a strapless wedding gown as a backdrop. Some multi-strand necklaces feature strands of varying lengths that lay in rows against the skin, while others feature various strands that are all tangled together. Opt for an understated, simple option like a multi-strand pearl necklace or choose a delicate multi-strand option with Swarovski crystals. If you prefer a dramatic look, choose a style with tangled strands of pearls, crystals and rhinestones mixed together.

An Understated Pendant

A pendant can be exquisite, yet simple, with a strapless wedding gown. Since pendants come in a variety of materials, shapes and designs, you can easily find an option that fits your style and coordinates with your dress. Pearls are particularly classic in a pendant setting, reflecting the tone of a white, cream or gold gown with their silver and golden tones -- or you could choose a black pearl if you'd like something more unique, yet still subtle. For a more dramatic look, choose a larger pendant that features several stones stacked on top of one another or in a circle or square shape. For a touch of minimalism with a dash of sparkle, a simple diamond or cubic zirconia pendant will do the trick -- or try a more romantic look with a heart-shaped pendant that features diamonds or cubic zirconia.
