Cedar drawers or chests, closets and other pieces of furniture made from this type of wood are prized for their aroma and attractive colors. Cedar drawers can naturally repel pests and keep clothes smelling fresh without the use of unnecessary, potentially harmful sprays, sachets or fresheners that are not safe to use around small children or pets. Over time, the pleasant scent of the cedar wood gradually fades. A light sanding is all that's needed to release fresh cedar scent anew.
Remove the drawer from the dresser, table, cabinet or other host carefully. If the drawer is very full or contains heavy objects, removing the items inside it first to make the drawer easier to take out.
Remove any clothing or other materials from the cedar drawer.
Wipe the drawer clean of any debris or grime, if needed.
Sand the inside of the drawer by rubbing a piece of fine-grit sandpaper over the entire unfinished wood surface gently in the direction of the wood grain. You only need to sand the wood surface lightly to release a fresh cedar scent.
Wipe the inside of the drawer lightly with a clean, very slightly damp cloth to pick up as much of the sanding dust as possible. Alternatively, you can use a vacuum with a soft brush attachment to remove the fine sawdust.
Replace the drawer back into the space you removed it from, refill it with all of the items you took out earlier.
