How to Get Rock Chick Style

by Sara Cantu

Edgy and glamorous at once, a rock chick style of clothing has the ability to make you look and feel your most fabulous. Whether dressing for running errands or a night out on the town, an ensemble compiled of basics with splashes of rock-inspired pieces can instantly transform your style and mood, leaving you ready to take on whatever comes your way. Cool confidence is the trick to pulling off a rock chick style of clothing, and a fierce attitude is just as vital as the tough-girl clothing itself.

Lots of Leather

Rock music and leather are nearly synonymous, and wearing even one leather piece automatically adds a tough-girl vibe to your ensemble. Pair a leather motorcycle jacket with a vintage T-shirt and faded denim jeans to pull off the rocker persona. A simple white T-shirt and black skinny jeans is a stylish pairing as well. Leather leggings and pants not only enhance killer curves, but they add just the right amount of edge when paired with tops like a black sequined tunic or an oversized sweater. For a dressier clothing option, pair a fitted leather pencil skirt with a white tank top and high-heeled ankle booties.

Maximum Monochrome

An all-black outfit is a simple yet effective way to imitate a glamorous but tough rocker chick outfit. Pair black suede or leather boots with anything from black jeggings to lace leggings. Add a black blouse, jacket or blazer to these pairings, and top off with a studded or metallic hardware accessory or jacket to complete the look. For something more sultry, a black crop top and tight leather pants work fabulously. Accessorize with a leopard print scarf, a wide-brimmed hat and retro sunglasses for a cool incognito look. You may opt for a knee-high pair of boots to up the ante on this ensemble. The key to keeping a monochromatic look from appearing boring is to mix in different styles and textures to compile a unique look.

Fabulous Fabrics & Prints

Certain fabrics and prints like camouflage add an instant rocker vibe to an ensemble. Layer a military-inspired camouflage jacket on top of a soft V-neck and tight jeans to nail the look. For an eclectic mix, add leopard-print ankle booties to up the fun factor. Pair leopard-print skinny jeans with a black T-shirt or chiffon blouse for a nighttime-appropriate look, or wear a faux fur vest in a bold color or neutral like black to instantly jazz up a basic tank top and skinny jeans. Pile on gold chain necklaces to complete both of these outfits. Consider pairing a fringed suede vest with a maxi dress and fedora or 70s-inspired floppy hat for a glamorous twist on typical rock chick garb.

Spikes & Studs Galore

Studded garments and accessories are an edgy go-to, so add these cool pieces to your look to emulate a rocker chick. A simple black dress is easily transformed with the placement of studs and spikes on the shoulders or a skinny studded belt around the waist. When rocking form-fitting dresses and other feminine pieces, you may add a gold-studded or spiked clutch for a small hint of rebellion. Studded hobo bangs and cross-body bags pair well with casual pieces like denim cutoffs and a vintage band T-shirt. Luxe jewelry adds an instant glam factor to tougher pieces, so choose a studded cuff bracelet or pyramid stud earrings to polish off a rocker chick outfit.
