How to Speed Up Metabolism With Vitamins

by Tiffany Silverberg

Your metabolism is the process by which your body uses and burns through foods, turning them into energy. The faster your metabolism works, the faster your body works through calories. If you have, or think you have, a slow metabolism, you may be disappointed by how slowly your body burns food, storing it as fat. If you are trying to improve your metabolism, skip the compounds that make these promises. Instead, choose natural vitamins that have proven to boost metabolic rates.

Start eating a diet high in vitamin B and iron. These are found in green leafy vegetables, such as spinach and seaweed, and red meat, respectively. Salmon contains iron, so salmon rolls wrapped in seaweed sheets are a great way to get vitamin B and iron on your diet.

Take a multivitamin, containing iron and Vitamin B, or take the recommended amount on the side of vitamin B and iron supplement containers. Only take the recommended amount. Too much of either per day can be unhealthy and even toxic. In this case, more is not better.

Drink more green tea. Although not a vitamin itself, compounds in green tea have proven to speed your metabolism. You can drink tea with a whole wheat bagel or muffin, as whole grains are full of vitamin B.
